On Saturday May 23rd for the World Boating Day, Model Maker Group opens its doors to the public, to offer the opportunity to witness how a fine scale model of yachts gets created. A journey through all the production phases, from the design to final product.

MMG story originated more than twenty years ago, from the passion of Company founder and COO Giuseppe Capobianco, who started making models of ships of all kinds in a small garage. Throughout the years, also thanks to Elisabetta Fantasia stepping up as CEO, the Company has grown significantly, and today it is a structured establishment with two manufacturing sites, specialized in the production of fine scale models of yachts and superyachts for shipyards, designers, dealers and shipowners globally.

MMG team is made up of 35 women and men, experts working together to combine meticulous and skilled craftsmanship with the latest technologies while promoting the “Made in Italy” brand. During the Company tour, the visitors will be able to closely observe the various stages of production, and the process that allows for the reproduction of realistic finishes and details, such as teak, pool water, special fabrics and furnishings.

A scale model today represents not only a crucial marketing tool for shipyards and designers, but also a great remembrance of their yacht for shipowners, therefore every project is tailored to the client’s needs and wants, always ensuring confidentiality and professionalism.

On March 4th, at Paola Lenti’s Showroom in Milan, an amazing night unfolded with the event Beyond the Horizon – Shaping a New Vision of Elegance at Sea. A unique collaboration between Paola Lenti and Model Maker Group created the incredible setting for an exclusive event featuring Espen Øino.

In this prestigious venue, the Ulyssia 320 mt scale model, produced by MMG, served as an amazing centrepiece, attracting the guests present to admire it closely. Thanks to Ulyssia Residences AG CEO Alain Gruber, for making it happen.

Throughout the night world renowned naval architect Espen Øino shared his vision on the future of yacht design and the importance of using innovative materials combined with signature design.

A unique celebratory gathering to reward the students of Master in Yacht Design of the Politecnico di Milano, that were invited to design a yacht outdoor space in line with Paola Lenti’s philosophy.

Model Maker Group had the honour of creating the prizes, and COO Giuseppe Capobianco as a member of the jury, had the privilege of handing them out to the winners.

A special token was gifted by MMG to all the guests, a miniature armchair “Sabrina” signed Paola Lenti and designed by Espen Øino. An item of design, part of the MMG collection, created to showcase beautiful design, meticulous craftmanship and incredible collaborations.

The event had a great attendance, with over 200 guests present, it truly represented an inspiring opportunity for the new design generations to meet the pillars of the nautical industry.

Model Maker Group attended the 2025 Metstrade, held in Amsterdam from the 18th till the 20th of November, with some original features, a brand-new stand and three fine scale models, for a new contemporary look and feel.

The MMG stand was finely furnished with Paola Lenti’s pieces. An incredible “mini chair” inspired by the Sabrina collection, designed by Espen Oeino was given to visitors as a token of appreciation.

A model of D&O Houseboat was displayed, this work of art developed by Studio Piet Boon showcases MMG growing capability to create models with illumination as well as intricate and detailed interior furniture.

A reproduction of a historic Feadship yacht was also brought to the fair to be admired. Requested by a private owner, the model was created using mainly photos provided by the client, now it represents a family’s heritage while featuring MMG meticulous accuracy in the production of exact replicas.

For the very first time, MMG presented Lily, a model made for 70% out of recycled materials, showing the Company approach on sustainability. The model designed by Vripack Design Studio for Oceanco is the perfect example of superb craftsmanship and low environmental impact.

On opening night, CEO Elisabetta Fantasia with COO Giuseppe Capobianco hosted a laidback and friendly aperitif to welcome the many visitors that came to enjoy MMG work, the turnout was impressive. An important event that facilitated forming new relationships and helped solidifying old ones, it was truly a night to remember.

Every year Model Maker Group puts the utmost care preparing for the most notable events in the nautical field: The September Boat shows.

After months spent designing and realizing spectacular models, the MMG team gets ready to support their customers with dedicated deliveries, installation, and inspection of the models throughout the duration of the show.

The trucks get loaded with new models and the team travels to Cannes and Monaco to make the necessary repairs to the existing ones on-site.

2025 was no different the MMG personnel were there for their customers with top notch assistance offering time and expertise during these prestigious nautical shows.

The yachting season was kickstarted by the annual Cannes Yachting Festival from September 9th to the 14th, MMG was present with some notable models, new projects that required months of preparation, ingenuity and skilled craftmanship.

At the Monaco Yacht Show, held from the 24th till the 27th, MMG confirmed its widespread presence, even without its own stand, the Company trademark could be admired through the over 100 models displayed.

From the 8th to the 13th of April 2025, Milan became a centre of innovation where designers and design enthusiasts came together to discover and appreciate the latest trends in the design industry.

For Model Maker Group, a terrific opportunity arose to partner with Paola Lenti, a collaboration that fused textile innovation with model making precision.

This project was discussed and shared between MMG CEO Eng. Elisabetta Fantasia and Paola Lenti’s team, encouraging MMG to be present at Milano Design Week with three different scale models, all furnished with Paola Lenti’s finest furniture. Couches, chairs, tables, rugs: every piece a representation of the shared ambitious standards for design precision, sustainability, and great diligence.

For these reasons we support the amateur cycling team Happy Bike, a group of people whose fundamental beliefs are noble and honourable.

This sports club is a safe space for all the participants to create real connections, have fun, and experience togetherness and solidarity.

In July 2024 at Model Maker Group, we welcomed a special guest: Bacci Del Buono came to visit us with The Boat Show. A leading tv program dedicated to the international nautical field.

The crew got to spend a day with us and witnessed what we do every day. We told them our story and explained that hard work and passion, people and technology resulted in immense growth and unbelievable satisfaction.

During filming CEO Elisabetta Fantasia and COO Giuseppe Capobianco proudly showed them our Company and brought Bacci and the entire crew where it all started over two decades ago.

Bacci Del Buono passionately observed the model making process and the distinct phases of production, from the project to the physical model. He admired the intricate work that goes into manufacturing a miniature yacht, stating that “A model is a work of art, and art is emotion.”

Giuseppe Capobianco founder and COO of Model maker Group has recently been interviewed by Press Mare to talk about how the Company invested in new technologies throughout the years.

The purchase of the first 5-axis CNC and later a second one with the creation of a separate division specialized in milling gave Model Maker Group the opportunity to pivot and produce yacht parts in scale 1:1, although the production of scale models remains the core of our business.

Capobianco talked about how it became clear early on that to build highly detailed scale models and to achieve increasingly realistic results, technology was going to be the key; for this reason, the Company invested in the acquisition of five 3D printers, creating high quality models that faithfully represent reality.
